Buying an Engagement Ring is Creating Memories
Sometimes it hits like a lightening bolt. One minute, you are sitting there watching a movie or paying bills or driving down the road and suddenly you realize that the woman you are with is the one you have been looking for your entire life. And after that realization comes the knowledge that you will do anything in your power to keep her, to make her yours forever. That means you must buy a ring. And the thought of buying an engagement ring makes your throat go dry. That is a monumental choice. There are so many options and things to consider and rings cost so much and…and what if you choose the wrong ring and she says no?
Take a deep breath. Buying an engagement ring is not as frightening as you believe. It is actually a fun, very memorable adventure. Yes, there are a lot of options, but when you are buying an engagement ring, the most important thing to keep in mind is that there are no wrong options.
Perhaps the easiest decision is what type of metal you want your ring to be. There are several to choose from, each with their own pros and cons. The least expensive is silver, but it is not very durable and is not made for a lifetime of wear. Next is yellow gold, then white gold, palladium, and finally, platinum.
You will also have to choose a setting. This is where personal taste will play a big role. Options are practically endless when looking at settings. There are shoulder stones or solitaires, baguettes or paved diamonds. The setting is what will surround the main diamond.
Speaking of the main diamond, that might be the hardest part of your decision. Here, budget and knowledge will be your key factors. There are different grades of diamonds. Flawless diamonds are incredibly rare and so, incredibly expensive. But there are diamonds that have a few flaws that are not visible, or colour that can only be seen with a microscope, and these diamonds are much more affordable. The different cuts are a personal choice as well. Many of them are cut specifically to maximize facets, which increases shine and brilliance, but really, the shape is what people are going to notice and so is also an important decision.
Buying an engagement ring should be fun. Find the ring that reminds you of her, of everything she is and ever will be, and that will be the ring for you.
