Gold Engagement Rings Give You Bright Beauty
Gold engagement rings have probably been around longer than any other metal. Platinum has not been used for too incredibly long, and palladium is fairly new to the ring market. But gold has been used for centuries. There are two types of gold used in engagement rings: White gold and yellow gold. Beyond the two being different colours, there are not really many differences.
Gold engagement rings are smack dab in the middle of the price scale. They are not cheap metals, like silver, but they are also not as expensive as platinum. And gold used for engagement ring settings are very popular. Many women like the warmth of yellow gold engagement rings, especially women with fair skin. And they love that yellow gold showcase the diamond more than the white metals, where the diamond seems to blend into the setting. Yellow gold typically comes in 14 or 18 carat. 24 carat is also available, but it is very soft and will not hold up well for everyday wear unless it is alloyed, or mixed, with another stronger metal. The higher the carat of gold, the brighter it will be.
White gold engagement rings are made from a metal not really found in nature. To get white gold, yellow gold must be mixed with another metal, usually zinc or nickel, and sometimes silver. This gives the ring its white appearance so that it looks like platinum, and then it is coated with something called rhodium. The rhodium plating is used to make white gold engagement rings more durable and scratch resistant. This plating can wear over time and will need to be refinished, but it is not hard and it is not expensive. Because of the rhodium plating, white gold engagement rings are actually shinier than platinum engagement rings, and a lot of times it is the shine and sparkle factor that women are going for.
Gold engagement rings, whether they are yellow or white, offer a price more kind to your budget and they have the strength and beauty needed in engagement rings. The deciding factor will be personal taste and colouring, although how much you would like to spend might have a say in matters as well.
